Soviet 1957 Atlas of the Clouds, consisting of a 65pp printed booklet, single folio contents page, and 130 illustrated pages (loose leaf/unbound) showing b&w and colour photo illustrations of all varieties of cloud formations (2 photo illustrations per page), accompanied by descriptive text; housed in a cloth folder with b&w cloud photo laid in to front; reverse side of front cover with a gift-inscription stating “Presented to Dr. Steiger from Dr. Dralkin (4th Soviet Antarctic Expedition) at Mirny 31.10.1959”; Aleksandr Gavrilovich Dralkin was a Soviet polar explorer who led the 4th and 7th Soviet Antarctic Expeditions; we take ‘Dr. Steiger’ to be H.O. (Otto) Steiger, a prominent member of the Special Committee on Antarctic Research in the 1950’s; all texts in Russian with no English translation; heavy worn patches (insect damage) to front cover of contents, lighter wear to wraps of booklet, cloud photos Very Good; cloth folder rubbed, scuffed and sunned.
