Scarce 1st Edition of Charles Chubb’s Fugitive Pieces; Chubb served as the Mayor of Ipswich in 1877, having previously been an Alderman on the Ipswich Council; according to the Qld Government website relating to early Ipswich, Chubb is ‘credited with the first poem written in the newly named Queensland. The Poem was issued as a leaflet in December 1959, and was an ode to welcome the new Governor Sir George Bowen’; this ode appears as the first poem in Fugitive Pieces; printed stiff-card wraps; former owner’s name to title page and front cover, scattered foxing, heavy to endpapers and prelims, lighter throughout, o.w. Good; wraps heavily rubbed and foxed, with worn patches and edgewear; spine browned, and with cracks and loss to tail.
