Collection of the paintings of New Zealand birds by renowned British bird artist George Edward Lodge; first commissioned by the NZ Government in the early 1900’s (and meant to include a text by James Drummond) but interrupted by WWI, the plates passed into the care of the NZ National Museum, where they remained until the publication of this book; 89 full-page colour plates (plus colour frontispiece plate), accompanied by descriptive text by Charles Fleming, who also provides a detailed introduction; there is also a section on The History of Birds in New Zealand; foreword by Sir Peter Scott, preface by Dr. J.C. Yaldwyn; handsome half blue cloth boards with grey title label and gilt titling to spine; faux leather boards; tiny knock lower corner front board, tiny nick to cloth at rear board, o.w.
