Signed 1st Edition of Val Vallis’ first collection of poetry; Signed and dated to front endpaper “To Mercy Griffin with my compliments Val Vallis April 1948”; very scarce signed copy; this being the original Songs of the East Coast, Vallis having used the same title for later collections, stating thus ‘Walt Whitman gave the title Leaves of Grass to every collection of his poetry…I have decided to give the same continuity to my own poetry’; tape stains to endpapers and prelims, occasional foxing, occasional minor stains in text, o.w. G-VG throughout; boards rubbed and foxed, gilt titling dulled, some small worn spots; dustwrapper in two pieces, held together in clear archival (removable) dw cover; heavily rubbed, major loss to spine and top rear panel.
