Early New Zealand reader for 5th and 6th standard classes, produced under the direction of then Minister of Education William Reeves; maroon cloth boards with black titling and Southern Cross motif to front board and gilt titling to spine; selection of prose and poems on NZ subjects, including Captain Cook, Maori Arts, Milford Sound, The Treaty of Waitangi, etc; ornate endpapers; very occasional minor foxing, o.w. Very Good, unusual for old school readers which are often heavily marked; boards sunned to spine (no loss of text).
