1st Edition (stated ‘First Published 1938’) – history of the 42nd Battalion AIF, referencing the birth of the Battalion, training at Enoggera, and with focus on front line action in WWI (Messines, Ypres, Broodseinde, Passchendaele, Somme, Ancre, Hamel, Amiens, Mont St Quentin, Hindenburg Line); b&w plate illustrations; includes Roll of Officers who Returned, Officers Killed in Action, Nominal Roll of the 42nd Battalion AIF, Decorations Awarded; also includes a few hand-written notes in pencil (on loose pieces of paper, or glued to endpapers) by Roy Dagg, whose name appears in the list of NCO’s and other Ranks Discharged; also included is a large single-page folded hand-bill discussing the history of the Clermont Club; Francis Jack Needham’s copy – signed by Needham to front pastedown; Needham’s name appears in the ‘Roll of Officers who Returned’; foxing to endpapers and prelims, dampstain to lower text block, generally good throughout (if a little tired) with occasional foxing in text, and one or two stains; boards rubbed and scuffed, and with heavier wear along spine.
